Carl Christian Reindorf Archives and Special Collection Unit

The Carl Christian Reindorf Archives and Special Collection Unit is a repository for preserving and managing historical records and rare books that provide insight into past events, individuals, and identities. These primary sources are essential for conducting research and gaining a deeper understanding of history.

The Carl Christian Reindorf Archives and Special Collection Unit in the Johannes Zimmerman Library houses archival materials and rare books.

Collection
The materials in the Archives includes:

1. The Presbyterian Church of Ghana Collection
This general collection has series comprising records on church life and nurture, ecumenical and social relations records, records on finance, and other administrative records.

Series A: Records on Church Life and Nurture
This series contains records on the Department of Church Life and Nature in the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (1935 – 2012). The records were generated through the regular activities of the Department of Church Life and Nature. The series consists of Women’s Ministry records, Men’s Ministry records, Evangelism and Worship records, Youth Ministry records, Hymns and Songs records and Regulations, Practice and Procedure records. It also includes records on Ministry, Training, Scholarship and Counselling.

Series B: Ecumenical and Social Relations Records
This series contains the records of the Ecumenical and Social Relations. They are mainly records that document the dealings and relations of the Presbyterian church of Ghana with other local and international religious organizations. The series consists of records on church and society, international ecumenical relations records and local ecumenical records.

Series C: Records on Finance
This series contains financial related records of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, mostly those that were generated at the church’s head office. It consists of sub-series of records on Audit, Rates and Taxes, Donations, Charities, Appeal for Funds, Pensions and Salaries, Credit Union, Banks and Finance Committee. It also includes various records on Social Security, Presbyterian Foundations, Insurance Payments, other general financial records and books and booklets on finance.

Series D: Records on Social Services
This series contains records on social services in the Presbyterian church of Ghana (1848 – 2007). The collection consists of Health and Environment Records, Publications Records and General Education Records. It also includes records on Development and Water Projects and records on Agricultural Services Projects.

Series F: General Administrative Records
This collection contains the administrative records of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (1828-2014). Most of the records were generated through the routine activities of the various administrative departments at the church’s headquarters, presbyteries, districts, and congregations. The collection consists of the Moderator’s records, Human Resources records, general administrative records, records of the Synod (currently known as The General Assembly), records of the Synod Committee (presently referred to as the General Assembly Council) and records of the Synod Committee Executive (what they now call the General Assembly Council Standing Committee). It also includes records covering some properties belonging to the Presbyterian Church of Ghana as well as church registers, records of various
presbyteries and records on information management and statistics.

2. Ephraim Amu’s Collection
This collection contains the papers of Ephraim Amu (1899-1995), an eminent statesman who composed Ghana’s patriotic song. He was a music composer, song writer, music tutor, poet, and a theologian. The collection consists of sermons, invitation cards, health related records, legal records, financial records, newspaper clippings, notebooks and exercise books, photographs and
his books and other published materials collections.

3. Allison Howell Collection
This collection contains the papers of Professor Allison Mary Howell, a Lecturer at Akrofi–Christaller Institute of Theology, Mission and Culture. The collection consists of research papers and articles, newspaper cuttings on topical issues, and audio-visual materials.

4. Akrofi-Christaller Collection
This Collection has two series: ACI Events and Programmes and Students Research Data

Series A: ACI Events and Programmes
This collection contains event materials of the ACI (2016 – 2019). The collections consist of brochures, flyers and programmes of the Kwame Bediako Memorial lectures, the Asante – Opoku – Reindorf lectures and graduation ceremonies. It also includes a programme of the remembrance of Emeritus Professor J.H. Kwabena Nketia, FGA 1921 – 2019, the programme for the investiture of the chancellor, Professor Ablade Glover and a brochure for the centenary celebration of the SYNOD of the Presbyterian church of Ghana: A catalogue of items exhibited from the 18th – 23rd August, 2018 at the Carl Christian Reindorf Archives.
